Dalian is located at the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, east of the Yellow Sea and west of the Bohai Sea. The annual average temperature in Dalian is about 10°C. Dalian is the only city in China that has received the honor, and is one of only two such cities in Asia.  Dalian has a coastline of 1906 km, which is known as "gold and silver sand beach, where the sea melts into the sky". The mild temperature means the air in Dalian is fresh and clean with high oxygen anion content. The climate in Dalian is north temperate zone monsoon continental climate, making Dalian the warmest place in Northeast China. Thus, Dalian is known as a resort destination for summer tourists. The annual average temperature is around 10°C with a high average temperature of 24°C in August. Dalian’s lowest temperature is in January with an average temperature of minus 5°C; while the extremely low temperature may reach nearly minus 21°C. Summer has the most rainfall with torrential rains occurring frequently; and it rains more often at night than in daytime. The ideal time for traveling is from May to October.
